For those who don't know, Jolla is a Finnish company formed by ex-Nokia employees which specializes in making handsets which usually are the reminisce of the ols Nokia design before it switched to the Windows Phone platform.
It is reported that Jolla is talking with potential partners for sales of its handsets in Indian market. It has already taken one step and is trying to enter the Indian market through e-commerce route. “Jolla is now rapidly entering into new markets, and is negotiating with partners in several countries, including Russia, India and Hong Kong where Jolla will open online sales in the near future" was said by the company earlier today.
Jolla phones run on Sailfish OS which is their home-brew OS developed considering the Symbian OS which used to be Nokia's proprietary OS. The peculiarity about Sailfish OS is that it will support applications developed for android and the users will be able to port in their favourite applications in Jolla phones with robust hardware. Apart from all this the design of UI is very simple and refreshing than the existing smartphone OS i.e. iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS.
The company has already started receiving pre-orders for their handsets from India.
Currently, Jolla is a team of about 90 people and works in Helsinki, Tampere, Finland and Hong Kong, SAR of China. Jolla unveiled its first smartphone for about Rs 34,000 (converted) in November 2013 and is now expanding globally.
Jolla has also announced an agreement with F-secure for providing security on their Sailfish OS. Also Jolla customers will be able to access stored content and files from other devices such as tablets, Macs or PCs. This gives them a considerable edge over other competitors in the Smartphone market.
